Help me solve a fibre channel drive cage identification mystery

I was given a compaq storageworks fibre channel drive cage enclosure but without the power supplies, without the EMU module and without the I/O module. The box accepts only FC drives because it has FC connections. I have FC drives and FC trays to go into the box. I believe this FC enclosure is similiar to a Compaq Storageworks G2 4314R enclosure. I believe I can transfer the EMU and the power supply from a Compaq G2 4314R but not the IO module. I need to locate the appropriate IO module for this cage - a card slot IO module. I cannot locate the manuals or parts for this kind of a cage. I don't even know what kind of a model this cage is. I can only identify the original part number (166199-001) but no spares part number other than a "moongazer 14 CTU" on the same label. Several searches on this HP and IT site for parts, models, etc turned up nothing. Can anybody point me to where I can identify the unit, the manuals and the part numbers? Thank you

Michael:

It looks like the 166199-001 is the older EVA disk shelf, the M5214R. Looking for the hp links now...

Yes, the link to the manuals. My searches based on your "m5214R" information were not successful.

Re: Help me solve a fibre channel drive cage identification mystery

I can tell you the power supplies are the same as the 4214/4314 SCSI disk shelf, but the EMU is different, as well as the I/O module.

Adain, this shelf is for use in an EVA3000/EVA5000.

How are you looking to use it?

Still searching for a manual...

Do you have a serial number for the box?

Re: Help me solve a fibre channel drive cage identification mystery

FC box serial number is G2B9CC19JLV0HZ. I was hoping to use the box as an add-on to the already-installed SCSI rack-mounted drives on a FC fabric network or, if not possible, to run the FC box off directly from a 1850R unit as an extended drive. I have a box of 20 FC drives sitting in a corner of my closet that should be made useful instead of being tossed.

I am almost positive that that configuration would not be supported by HP, but would have to call to find out for sure.

I don't think you can directly connect the fibre I/O module to a server.

It is not likely that you can use it with a SCSI shelf either.

What size are the drives?

Re: Help me solve a fibre channel drive cage identification mystery

9 GB FC drives; 20 FC drives in all.
