Hotplug disk replacement
Got a Proliant Server ML530 SmartArray controller 641. Six hotplug disks. Raid 5 configuration.
One disk failed. What is the procedure to replace it? should I unplug it and replace it? or should I do any procedure with the Disk Array Manager?
Thanx in Advance

Re: Hotplug disk replacement
Hi,
just remove the old disk, then put in the new one. After about 30 seconds it should automatically start to rebuild (the middle LED blinks about once a second).
You don't need to go into Array Configuration Utilty for this to start, but you can go there to check the progress of the rebuild.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: Hotplug disk replacement
Can I just eliminate the disk without replacing it? Do I have to reconfigure the whole array? or it can be done automatically?
Thanx

Re: Hotplug disk replacement
No, you have to replace the disk.
Or else you can delete the entire array, recreate it with only 5 disks and restore all your data from backup (if it all fits - the effective capacity of the array would be 20% smaller)

Stephen
