How often doing a self-test for full discharge and full rechage?

Hell All;

We are using some VA7410 arry on N4000 servers.
Oneday, the disk arry was on self-test for battery full dischargeing/rechargeing.

The sevice manual which is a VA7000 serise said, that battery perform doing every 6 months.

And I'd taken a logs which was using "armdsp" command. I found a "Discharge Cycles" in the logs. and it has a nuber of the cycles which are 0 to 3,depends on the arrys.

1. Does "Discharge Cycles" mean, how many times did the self-test for a dischage/rechage?

2. Is it possible to predict that, when the self-test will be running next?

3. How long does the self-test take till the battery is full rechaged?

Hello kats,

I suppose you mean "hellO all" :-)
I don't know what you want the info for but the array is testing the batteries in such a way that you will never suffer a problem in case of a hardware failure during a battery test. The firmware will never deplete a battery. Every battery has a microprocessor and that has smart software to test the batteries.
Hope this answers your questions.

Re: How often doing a self-test for full discharge and full rechage?

Hello Arend and All;

Thank you for reply, and goot point out for such a bad spelling.

Yes, I mean "Hello All", Not ".... All".

B.T.W;
I'd like to know more detaile about battery self-test.

I know,
1. The Battery LED which is green on a controller has been flashing,when it was tested. And also the system LED whichi is on array enclosur was turned on "amber".

2. In our case, It took about 11 hours till the battery was full recharged.
I worry about it is nomal action?

Regards
Katsu

Re: How often doing a self-test for full discharge and full rechage?

Katsu,

The firmware in the battery charger is smart enough to detect a bad battery. You could have a look in the eventlog and see what is logged in there. Please execute the armlog -c command and have a look.
A VA will go in warning state when not ALL components are in optimal status, when a battery is not fully charged is one of that situation when the yellow led will be lit.
Not every warning state is an error state, the armdsp -a command or command view gui will tell exactly why a yellow led is on.
For instance when a logical link controller (LCC) is replaced and the firmware is different then the others it will also go in warning state but will function perfectly.

Re: How often doing a self-test for full discharge and full rechage?

Hello Arend,

Thank you for good infomation.

I have checked the log for a logprn.
It has shown us everything about the status for the battery or anyother part.

You are right, the firmware in the battery is so smarat. I admire that.
It was good experienc for me.

Thanks Arend

Katsu.
