How to Backup Array Config

Hi,

I have been tasked with upgrading the hard drives on an existing Compaq ML570..

Current Config using Smart Array 5300 Controller

Array A (with Spare)
-Logical Drive 1 (8191 MB; RAID 1+0)
-Logical Drive 2 (9172 MB; RAID 1+0)

Array B (with Spare)
-Logical Drive 3 (69463 MB; RAID 5)

Physical Drives
2 x 18 GB (Mirror)
3 x 32 GB (RAID5)
1 x 32 GB (Hot Spare)

Questions:

-How do I backup the existing Array Configuration onto Floppy Disk?

We will be replacing current hard drives with the following..

2 x 72 GB (Mirror)
3 x 146 GB (RAID 5)
1 x 146 GB (Hot Spare)

If the upgrade is not sucessful, will I be able to revert to the previous Array config, add in the previous hard drives and have a fully functional server.

Hope I have explained it clearly.

Re: How to Backup Array Config

Hello Sean,

The first thing you want to do is a full backup of all your data to be safe.

I believe what you want can be done with the Array Configuration Utility (ACU). You can find it on the SmartStart CD or can be downloaded from
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/14185.html

You should also check to make sure you have the latest firmware installed.

I have also attached a best practices white paper on array rebuilding.

Hope this info help.

Re: How to Backup Array Config

You don't need backup ACU configuration, just use F8 and create Arrays as they were before at new Drives. ARRAY A, ARRAY B ├в ┬жetc

Re: How to Backup Array Config

Hi Sean,
How Kov wrote, you don't need backup your array configuration - all configuration data in all previous compaq and current HP Smart Array controllers are kept on hard drives. If you shut down your server and remove all disks, it is enought to have secure array configuration (and data obviously too).
