How to Size MSA2040 for IOPS?

Is there any Tool to Size an MSA240 for given IOPS?

Re: How to Size MSA2040 for IOPS?

Hi,

There is a tool available HP Storage Sizing Tool, but this is available only for HP Employees & HP Partners.

So you may have to get in touch with a sales team for this.

I work for HP.

I would prefer a Tool like Ninja or P6300_StorageOptimizer.
But it's OK.

Re: How to Size MSA2040 for IOPS?

I've got an MSA2040 and tons of drives for it. My quick and dirty analysis yields the following:

This is based on a composite average of different block sizes and queue depths with a pretty typical 60/40 r/w blend. The controllers are great in performance but they do hit a wall with certain configs.

I never miss targets when I size this way:

IOPS per drive pair - RAID 1+0 (these are pairs cuz it's RAID 10)

SSD = 8050

15K = 335.4

10K = 223.5

7.2K = 149

IOPS per drive - RAID 5 (add 1 to total needed cuz it's RAID 5, minimum 3)

SSD = 2430

15K = 96.6

10K = 64.3

7.2K = 43

IOPS per drive - RAID 6 (add 2 to total needed cuz it's RAID 6, minimum 4)

SSD = 2317

15K = 87.5

10K = 58.2

7.2K = 38.9

Enjoy!
