How to configure/use a VA7100 array?

Hi,
I have aVA7100 array with 15 36 GB disks.

In the ioscan output :
I do not see any entry for lun0 or the controller of the array.
The disks are shown as seperate.I want to manage the array as a single large disk and let the controller
decide on managing the data distrubution.

Can anyone tell me how to configure the array?

Re: How to configure/use a VA7100 array?

I wanted to add the following info:

armdiscover or armdsp are not recognising the array to be present.

This is due to the absence od Lun0 or the controller in the ioscan output.

If anyone knows - how to configure the array. please let me know.

Thank you,
Jayesh

Re: How to configure/use a VA7100 array?

Hi Jayesh,

I think you don't have a problem with your VA7100, but with your host.
armdiscover have to go well also if there no LUN0 is configured.
I'm sure you've trouble with the fc-driver.
In your last inquiry you wrote fcmsutil would show: Driver state = DEAD.
That obvious indicates a driverproblem.

Re: How to configure/use a VA7100 array?

Hi Harry,

Please, can you provide me help further on solving the problem completely.

After reading the manual -I had disabled the security for the time being and changed the
topology to Auto.

This possibly changed the output of fcmsutil.

Can you tell me what I need to
do in order to get armdiscover
recognise the array.

I have put another question on the same issue "VA7100 conectivity problems". Your reply has actually provided answer for that question.

Thanks a lot,
Jayesh

Re: How to configure/use a VA7100 array?

Hi,

connect a serial null modem cable to your VA and from the vfp create a lun 0 (10MB), than run a new ioscan followed by insf. After this start a armdiscover and your commandview software should be able to recognize the array.

Mark
