How to remove EMC disk devices from HPUX and reclaim the disk

Hi all:

What would be the best way to reclaim EMC disk devices from HPUX and reclaim the space to be used elsewhere?

Re: How to remove EMC disk devices from HPUX and reclaim the disk

Hi Rick,

Did you mean removing the lv's/vg's and then actually masking the LUN's so that the host does not see them?

Please advise
Cheers

So the host won't see and the disks are available to for redeployment to another host.

LV/VGs no problem. But the ioscan will still show the disks as CLAIMED. Need to remove the disks from the system seeing them.

Having thought about if further, removing the LUN's from the host can be done through volume logix

Here is an example. You need the wwn number from the host, the front end port being used and the range of LUN's to be removed and of course the software loaded on a system.

fpath rmdev -w 50060b00000abcde -f 3aa -r "005-009"

From what I am gathering, Volume Logix and fpath seem to be a couple of the most critical commands to doing anything with EMC. Correct?

Essentially 'fpath' is being phased out, but can still be used. The new SYMCLI (symmetrix command line) has a new command called 'symmask'. I still use fpath though. For the most part many people use a PC with a product called 'ECC' on it. It is windows based and do more or less the same as the SYMCLI commands. So in answer to your question, if your using SYMCLI and don't have access to ECC, then yes it is critical.

Hi Mike:

Many thanks.

That beer is still waiting when you come to the states.
