Internal and External SCSI devices
Is it possibly to run internal and external scsi devices within a proliant 3000 system? All the information on the compaq site seems to point that this is not possible meaning you either run with the internal drives until you out grow it and then move all those to external, or or external at the beginning. If it was only HD's - this would be simple to decide. We have an ext. DLT 20/40 Compaq device that we would like to run with.

Re: Internal and External SCSI devices
What does this have to do with an array controller?
The 3000 has a dual-channel SCSI controller integrated. This can support an external tape drive as well as internal devices.

Re: Internal and External SCSI devices
The Proliant 3000 has an Integrated Dual Port SCSI controller . Internal and External SCSI devices cannot be supported on the same SCSI channel/port (i.e port A ) . The Tape Drive can be attached to external SCSI port B as long as Internal Hard Drives are attached to SCSI Port A .
IF using a ( Dual Channel ) Smart Array Controller , Internal and External hard drives are supported . Smart Controllers do not support tape drives . Expect for the Integrated Smart Controllers on the newer ML and DL Series Proliant Servers .

Re: Internal and External SCSI devices
Good information - we were attaching a DLT tape drive to the external scsi port. Though it sounds like we could attach a proliant storage device as well as run hot swappables in the proliant 3000 internal storage bay. Correct? Do we need to change the system into duplex mode for the external scsi to be active on channel B such that the drives in the storage would run in channel A? Does this mean you can only run drives in the lower part of the internal storage of the proliant 3000 as well?
