Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

Hi it's me again:
This question goes to vcespon but if any can help me welcome then. I asked before what I need to do in order to upgrade to a EVA8000 (older is a EVA6000). You say me this 3 choices:
- Purchasing two new HSV210 controllers
- Purchasing additional loop switches
- Replacing the I/O modules in the enclosures if upgrading to EVA8100.

I ask you now: I need to execute the 3 tasks in order to upgrade the EVA? Or just upgrading to HSV210 controllers? Or just purchasing additional loop switches? Or just replacing the I/O modules in the enclosures if upgrading to EVA8100?

Anyway where I can find information on the elements that need to be upgraded or should I buy?

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

Ok, I found this PDF (converted to a image) http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1516/evaupgradedmatrix.jpg but not see there how I can upgrade from 6000 to 8000, just from 6000 to 8100. Any tips?

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

According to the slide it is an official presentation from 2009. The EVA-8000 was no longer sold at that time, so you can no longer do it via the normal sales channel.

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

To upgrade to an EVA8100 you need:

Two HSV210-B controllers (390855-006)
Four 852 loop-switches (408514-001)
Enclosures M5134C which means:
- I/O modules 364549-009 and 364548-009
- EMUs 375393-001 or 375393-005

Hi:
Where you find this information? I'm trying to find these components (by part number) and I didn't found nothing. :(

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

I think (s)he works for HP and has acccess to a lot more information than mere mortals ;-)

If it isn't obvious:
>Enclosures M5134C which means:
>- I/O modules 364549-009 and 364548-009

This is a logical AND - there is an A + B I/O module in an enclosure. They are physically different - can't replace A with B or B with A.

>- EMUs 375393-001 or 375393-005

A disk drive enclosure has one EMU, so you can use any one of the models per enclosure.

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

Hi again:
I have clearly what I need to buy but have some doubts yet.

1) By buying a new HSV210 controller means replace the old HSV200 (put into trash) or just upgrade XCS software in the old HSV200?

2) I/O Modules and EMUs means something like a target or some hardware need to be attached to enclosure or come prebuild when I buy a new enclosure M5134C?

3) I don't need to buy any FC kit cable or something else?

Cheers

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

1) The HSV210 controller modules are completely different hardware than the HSV200 and they run a slightly different firmware.

2) I/O Modules and EMUs
If you want to upgrade to an M5134C, you need to pull the old EMU module and the A+B I/O module and stick in the new ones.

If you buy a new M5134C it is supplied with the correct modules in the factory.

3) The HSV200 and the HSV210 use both LC connectors, but the HSV210 controller module has twice the amount of host ports (8 total), so you want 4 additional cables.

And do not forget that an EVA-8100 requires:
> Four 852 loop-switches (408514-001)

Re: Knowing Controllers Version and some others info

Hi:
Could anyone help me to build a buy order? I need to tell what I need to buy and what services our DC need from HP training people in order to upgrade the EVA to 8100. For now I was thinking to get another Racks 1000 g2 series for new enclosures, 11 enclosures but what else? I mean something like:
(1) rack (and if is possible part number)
(11) M5134C enclosures
(x) 300 GB 10k FC disks
(x) FC cables (wich one)
(x) 852 loop-switches (408514-001)

Thanks in advance
