Logical drive creation problem

I've got a DL380 Storage Server and a HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 20 attached.
MSA20 has got 12 x 250GB SATA disks plugged. I have created an 3 TB array (Unused Space, 2861318 MB)and I want to create a 2861318 MB logical drive, but Array Configuration Utility 7.15.19.0 only allows me to create a 2097151 MB logical volume too. ACU says that this is the maximun size allowed. Where is the problem or the limit?
Thanks in advanced

Re: Logical drive creation problem

Hi Cesar,

Yes 2TB is the maximum LUN size which can be created on the MSA. I guess you have MSA1500 cs.

Re: Logical drive creation problem

It's a limit in the SCSI protocol being used:

data blocks are addressed using a 32-bit counter

2^32 blocks * 512 byte / block = 2 TeraBytes

MSA20 with 12 x 250GB SATA disks plugged
But I need a 3 TB volume not a 2TB. Is there any way to reach 3 TB in one disk partition?

Thanks in advanced.

Re: Logical drive creation problem

You need to combine both LUNs using a volume manager in the operating system.

Re: Logical drive creation problem

Hello all,I have followed these steps :

1) Create a 2861318 MB (12x250GB) RAID5 from the Array Configuration Utility.
2) Create 2 logical drives from the Array Configuration Utility. The 1st one with 2097151 MB (max allowed) and the 2nd one with 525720 MB.
3) Now I can see 2 new disks/volumes from the Windows Disk Management.
4) Create a spanned volume using both new disks.

I think this is right. do you?

Thanks to all.
