Lost disk configuration in ACU with MSA1500

Is there a method to recover a lost disk array configuration in MSA1500.
The message in ACU tells that all logical volumes are no more present.
Help and thanks

Re: Lost disk configuration in ACU with MSA1500

Hi,

I assume this is the only logical so it is a case of the server (With the ACU installed on) having lost visibility. Have you checked the fibre switch and fibre cables (To eliminate failures with these)? Is the server dual attached with two HBAs (Has a HBA failure been ruled out?). Has the switch zoning been changed recently? Unless someone has been playing with logicals or SSP then the config for it still should be on the disks. If the MSA is a dual controller model try running on one then the other controller to check for a failure here. If it is single controller see you you can get a replacement from your HW supplier.

If the logical lost is one of many then it is not going to be connectivity or controller issue and a much more grim picture. In that case I would connect the CLI cable and see what the state of the logical and presentation (ACL) are shown as. Still could look at a controller swap. You could also see if creating the logical via CLI and not initializing it gave you a result (Remote)? Very odd for a logical to disappear without someone messing with it. Sorry no silver bullet for this one.

Good luck.

Re: Lost disk configuration in ACU with MSA1500

Hi Jason,

You were right, the config was still on the disks!
The problem happened when we added a new MSA30 array.
With HPSIM we saw the config.
After a while the config was visible again.
The power-on sequence is important but also the time before starting the controller.
Wait for full array initialization.

Thanks.

Hi Jean-Marc,

Great news you sorted it out. Those MSA controllers are modified Smart arrays so are pretty tollerant of moves etc. You're pretty unlucky if you lose data.
