MA8000 SPARE PROBLEM

WE HAVE A MA8000 ACS 8.6 . WE HAVE SEVERAL RAIDSETS BOTH RAID1 AND RAID5 AND WE HAVE TWO GLOBAL SPARE HARD DISKS. TWO WEEKS AGO A DISK ON A RAID5 CRASHED, AND NORMALLY ONE OF THE SPARES TOOK ITS PLACE. WE HAVE CHANGED THE DISK BUT WE CANNOT RETURN IT TO THE ORIGINAL RAID.

Re: MA8000 SPARE PROBLEM

Hi Yannis,

when a disk is replaced, it will not automatically go back to the original raidset. Depending on the setting of the AUTOSPARE parameter for the failedset, the replacement disk will either be in the spareset or doing nothing.
Check out this thread for info on sparesets and how to manually get the raidset back to its original configuration :

Note: this involves placing the RAIDSET in a reduced state, if another disk in the RAIDSET fails before the rebuild is complete you're in trouble. So make sure you have a backup beforehand.
