Re: MSA 2012fc G1 (AJ743A) campatibility with P2000 6G SAS HDDs (for example, AP858A)
I understand...
Ummm in a matter of fact, some of the 6G drives have FW 0006 and some other have FW 0008 (this is true both for 300 GBytes and 450 Gbytes, I have both the types).
This is a little upsetting.
Should I just plug in the drives and leave different firmwares? Or should I risk a FW Update before assigning them to a Virtual Disk?
Please be patient with me. I have not been able to sort this problem with HP support in MONTHS. You are the first one shedding some light on this obscure issue....
Looking forward to an update from you, hopefully.
Thanks again!
PS there are NOT other FW packages 0008 for MSA2000 G1 configurations... I've searched and searched and searched...

Hello,
generally it is the best to have the same drives at the same firmware level. But in you case you simply can not update them in G1. Do you disk of the same model have the same firmware? If yes you are fine. if not, maybe - if you have server which can connect disk directly and do update there. But if I were you, I just keep it as is, all these newer updates are related to 6Gb funcionality.

Re: MSA 2012fc G1 (AJ743A) campatibility with P2000 6G SAS HDDs (for example, AP858A)
Thanks Jan.
So, in the ent the 6G drives will have different firmwares even if they are the same model (some 0006 and some 0008), but as you said, they should be fine as long as they operate 3G.
I am grateful for the precious support you gave me. Nobody else was able to give me your explanation.
Now at least I feel confident that the vast majority of the chances are that everything is going to be OK even mixing the drives/FWs.
Kudos to you!

Re: MSA 2012fc G1 (AJ743A) campatibility with P2000 6G SAS HDDs (for example, AP858A)
Each drive model has its own firmware, e.g. model ST31000424SS currently has firmware 0008, model ST3450856SS has 0009.

Hope this helps!
