Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Where are you seeing this message ? On the LCD Display of the controller, or within ACU ?

Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Hi,

What is the ACU version you are using?

I guess latest ACU could be used to get rid of the issue.

Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Hi MISVER M-

here is a link to the current MSA 100 support CD. I would bet between a FW and driver update the issue would resolve. your current ACU is about 1 rev behind.

here is link for latest MSA100 Support CD:

here is a link for the latest MSA100 FW CD:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=377751&prodNameId=1155393&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=co-36807-1

thanks in advance!

Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Misver M,
The situation where you got this error is due to ...
Attempting to extend a logical drive beyond the supported maximum size on any of the products listed in the Scope section below using the legacy Array Configuration Utility (ACU) Version 2.90A (or earlier) or the Array Configuration Utility-XE (ACU-XE) Version 1.32A (or earlier), will yield a logical drive size that is limited to the maximum sizes listed in Table 1 (below). If the extension is attempted on a logical drive other than the last logical drive, a gap may be created between logical drives.
----------------------------------

To correct the space gap between logical drives after it has occurred, use the HP Array Configuration Utility to perform the following:

Note:

Before proceeding, it is highly recommended that a verified backup be obtained and sufficient downtime be scheduled for this procedure to complete.

Start the HP Array Configuration Utility and log in (if needed).
Select the array controller.
Select the appropriate controller in Configuration View.
Select "Logical Drive Array Accelerator Settings."
Disable the array accelerator for any of the logical drives by deselecting the check box.
Select OK.
Select SAVE to commit the changes.
Select OK.
Select "Logical Drive Array Accelerator Settings."
Enable the array accelerator by selecting the appropriate check box.
Select OK.
Select SAVE to commit the changes.
Select OK.
Following these steps will allow the HP Array Configuration Utility to correct the problem.

Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Misver M,

The maximum supported size for a logical drive extension is summarized in the following table:

Initial
Logical Drive
Size Sectors per Track Maximum Extended
Logical Drive Size
255 GBBR="GBBR" ><(261116 MB)="MB)" /> </ 255 32 255 GB<br />(261116 MB)
> 255 GB <br /><502 GB="GB" > (261116 MB) <br /><(514072 MB)="MB)" /> </502 63 502 GB<br />(514072 MB)
> 502 GB<br /><2 TB="TB" > (514072 MB) <br /><(2097152 MB)="MB)" /></2 63 2 TB<br />(2097152 MB)

Table 1. Maximum Supported Logical Drive Extension Sizes

Note: The numbers in parentheses (listed above) are the actual values that must be entered. For example, to create a logical drive that can later be expanded to 2 TB, a value of "514072" or higher must be entered.

Re: MSA1000 Controller Error

Misver M,
This is resolved in ACU-XE Version 1.40 (or later), please find the info here...

Note: The ACU-XE application was renamed to HP Array Configuration Utility beginning in SmartStart Release 6.10. This is documented in Customer Notice CN0225W "Compaq Array Configuration Utility XE Application Name Has Changed To HP Array Configuration Utility," which is available at the following URL:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_CN0225W

This is also corrected in all versions of the HP Array Configuration Utility, which is available at the following URL:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/3271.html
