MSA1000 - firmware 1.16 help

We have a Windows 2000 SP4 DL380 attached to a MSA1000 that has 2 controllers in it. When the Primary Active controller fails the Secondary controller also fails with error 'redundancy failed. no secondary controller'.
MSA Controller has firmware 1.16 and probably never had the correct software installed.
I downloaded a few ISO images from HP website and installed the Emulex drivers for the Fibre cards , Array Configuration utilty, ACU CLI, ACU Diagnostic utility , HP MPIO BAsic Failover for MSA 1000 V1.4, and HP MPIO DSM Manager V2.00.01. Do I need to update the firmware of the MSA1000 controllers before the redundancy will kick in? or am i missing something.

the latest active/passive firmware version is 5.30, consider to update:

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think the firmware being version 1.6 is causing the slave controller to fail .
Or could there be another peice of MSA software that I need or havn't configured.

Iam going to attempt to update the firmware to version 4.48 as i found that MPIO Basic Failover v1.4 requires Firmware 4.34 or later
