MSA30 - Need help

I have a box thats connected to a MSA30 disk array, the output from ioscan -fnC disk shows the following disk devices:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=========================================================================
disk 0 0/0/2/0.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-C
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
disk 1 0/1/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 36.4GMAU3036NC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk 2 0/1/1/0.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 36.4GST336753LC
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0
disk 3 0/4/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BD0728856A
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
disk 4 0/4/1/0.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BD07288277
/dev/dsk/c4t1d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t1d0
disk 5 0/4/1/0.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BD14688278
/dev/dsk/c4t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t2d0
disk 6 0/4/1/0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BD14687B52
/dev/dsk/c4t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t3d0
disk 7 0/4/1/0.4.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BF3008AFEC
/dev/dsk/c4t4d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t4d0
disk 8 0/4/1/0.5.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ BF3008AFEC
/dev/dsk/c4t5d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t5d0

Using sam I can see the following two devices are unused

0/4/1/0.4.0 1 Unused -- 286102 COMPAQ BF3008AFEC тФВ
тФВтФВ 0/4/1/0.5.0 1 Unused -- 286102 COMPAQ BF3008AFE C

How do I figure out the size of these two disks?

Are these two disks or should I see one?

How do I find out the RAID level?

I dont see them as /dev/ciss but as standard SCSI disks.

Please help will be truly appreciated

Re: MSA30 - Need help

Those are 300 GB 15K disks (you have 2x72, 2x146 and 2x300 GB)
The MSA30 is a JOBD enclosure, does not create RAIDs by itself. You must do that on the SCSI adapter if it supports hardware RAID, or on the OS.

In an MSA30 the disks are all on the same channel, or 7 on one channel and 7 on another. In your case SCSI ID 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are on the same channel, connected to the same controller, so there should not be any difference on how the OS sees them.

I dont see any SmartArray SCSI controller, which one is it being used for the disks?

Also, is there any guide that shows you how to create a RAID 1 with thouse 2 disks? can it be done from SAM?

Thanks

Re: MSA30 - Need help

Your SCSI controller is:

C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD A6829-60101

It's a dual channel SCSI HBA

On channel 0 you have the MSA30 with 6 disks
On channel 1 you have a DAT72

You have no SmartArray, so no hardware RAID.

Re: MSA30 - Need help

You have a dual bus MSA30, but no smartarray.

2 options:

- Mirror with LVM (from one bus to the other)

- buy a smartarray controller for hardware RAID

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
