MSA500 G2 Packaged Cluster

We have an existing MSA500G2 cluster using MS failover clustering inplace. However, we need to add another MSA500G2 storage as another shared array using a new Smart Array controllers on both nodes. Is it possible to configure hardware RAID mirroring across 2 MSA500G2 array storage. Is this a supported configuration? Is this a best practice? Will there be an issue?

Re: MSA500 G2 Packaged Cluster

I don't think you can since the server see's the MSA500 as a separate controller. It might be cheaper to upgrade to an MSA1000. You already have the needed shelf and drives, you just need fibre hba's, MSA1000 controllers and the 2/8 embedded switches.

If you have a dual channel controller, you can try connecting both msa's to it, but am almost sure that in ACU, it shows a separate entry for the MSA500g2 so you can't see other drives in the other unit.

In orde to do hardware mirroring, you would need to have all the drives on the same array controller over multiple channels.
