Migrate form Single Disk to RAID

I have a Proliant 1600 with one 18.2Gb hard drive hanging off the integrated SCSi Controller. I am hoping to install a RAID Controller. Has anyone any suggestions on how to migrate the data onto the RAID set without loosing any Data. I guess there is obe way to create a JBOT???

Re: Migrate form Single Disk to RAID

SORRY - you have no other chance than a complete backup and restore.

all compaq smart controllers require 1088 sectors (starting with track 0) to store raid configuration data (called RIS). this section is created when you create a disk with the array configuration utility. this will kill your MBR and some other data structures.

the good news: all smart controllers are data compatible .. but this is not the configuratiuon you have.

believe me ... you will loose data if you try to migrate to a raid controller

JBOD (single disk raid 0) will not solve this problem
