Migrating from RAID 5 to RAID ADG on MSA 1500
We have a MSA 1500cs with a 4 MSA20 shelves attached. We recently lost 2 drives in a single array and now are looking into converting to RAID ADG for better protection. Approximately how long would it take to convert a 1.4 TB RAID 5 volume to RAID ADG? I did some research but only found one person that had tried it and they said it took 15 minutes for 1GB. At that rate it would take almost 15 days to convert a single volume to ADG.
Any real life experience doing this is greatly appreciated.

Re: Migrating from RAID 5 to RAID ADG on MSA 1500
Hi,
the RAID6 (ADG) has pros and cons and it is good to know both before the migration:

Re: Migrating from RAID 5 to RAID ADG on MSA 1500
the link is internal so it does not work sorry 4 that, so in brief:
pros
High data availability├в any two disks can fail without loss of critical data.
cons
relatively low write performance (lower than RAID 5), due to the need for two sets of parity data.

Re: Migrating from RAID 5 to RAID ADG on MSA 1500
I'm aware of the performance issues with RAID ADG. This is for a file server for about 400 users. It's not I/O intensive at all. I'm more concerned with redundancy than performance.
With that said I'm still wondering how long it would take to convert to RAID ADG.
