Moving External Storage Array

Hello,

I need to move an external storage array to a new machine, this array is used for data only not the OS.

Currently its attached to a HP DL360, and it needs to be moved to a new HP DL360,

Can i move this device easily without losing all the data ?

Re: Moving External Storage Array

Sure you can if it is a real array like MSA1000, 1500, an EVA or so!
A real array means it has a built in controller!
I assume you are talking Windows!

You have to make sure that the array is properly attached and recognized by the new server. (HBA, driver, mutipathing etc)
Then you will see a new disk for each LUN.
Give it a drive letter and here you are!

If you are talking about JBODs connected to a smart array controller it is still possible but you need to provide more details!

Re: Moving External Storage Array

HP StorageWorks 4300 Enclosure
Model 4314R

connected via
Smart Array 6402

it linux the storage array holds data not OS, its going to be plugged into a new DL360 with a
smart array controller

Re: Moving External Storage Array

This will also work.

Find the details in the HP Smart Array 6i Controller User Guide staring on page 32

Thanks Peter,

i think this should be straightforward, but not having done this before it is a little worrying

Re: Moving External Storage Array

did this over the weekend, it was fairly straightforward, the most difficult thing was working out the scsi device name so that i could mount the disks.
