Moving to larger hard drives

Moving to larger hard drives

I have a RAID5 array with 6 18 gig drives, and I have to change them to 36 gig drives. I heard somewhere that I can replace them one at a time (after the array is rebuilt) and when the last one is in, there will be additional space that I can make into a new logical drive. Is that correct?

If not, what is the best way I can do this. We need more space, and by boss hate external storage.

Re: Moving to larger hard drives

It all depends on what model of Smart-2 array controller you have and what OS and file system type is being used with the logical array volumes. See the user guide for your model of array controller for the upgrade capibilities available with your model at this web address.

Yes, after you are done replacing the drives one at a time, use PowerQuest servermagic to expand the current drives (like expanding c: or d; or whatever) this is available for NT and Netware
