I have been tasked with adding two hot spares to a P2000 G3. Currently they have 22 SFF disks and two spare slots.
The idea so far is to go the datacentre with two disks, plug them into the spare slots, then log into the SMU -> provisioning -> manage global spares, and add the 2 new disks in as hot spares - is this the correct way of doing it?
If the above is the correct way then is there anything I need to watch out for (all the clients production VM servers are on the one disk shelf)?
Many thanks
David

SolutionIf a global spare is what you want then sure. There are user guides that would tell you the exact things to click :)
Some other things you can do:
If possible, you may want to check disk drive firmwares are in par with the ones installed already.
And maybe wait a bit before assigning them as spare, just to make sure there's no problems with them.

Re: P2000 G3 FC MAS - how to add and configure hot spares?
I found the documentation - SMU Reference Guide:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02520791/c02520791.pdf
And on:
page 50 - configuring dynamic spares
page 62 - managing global spares
page 80 - updating disk firmware

Personally I find the global and dynamic spares a bit confusing
