I have a HP ProLiant DL 320 G5p (SKU: 445434-421, ROM: W05 10/25/2010, 8192 MB physical RAM, boot Controller: Intel (R) 82801 GR SATA RAID Controller).
I want to replace Windows 2003 Server Std 2008 R2 with Windows Foundation.
I have concerns, namely:
- The SmartStart 8.70B does not install 2008 R2 Foundation even though the doc said yes. I went back to version 8.30, ditto.
- ACU not detecting controllers supported even with SmartStart 8.70B and 2008 R2 Standard.
- I can not install Windows 2008 R2 Foundation on the RAID 1 set. No disc found because no driver for the RAID controller (I tried all drivers I could download).
If I install on a disk without RAID enabled (BIOS), I'm going after the installation, I apply the SPP2012010.2012_0119.47 and FW930.2011_0503.59 but after the ACU does not allow me still not installed because a RAID does not detect any supported controllers.
Same with Windows 2008 R2 Standard.
I regret not being able to use SmartStart (comfort and speed) and especially not having a RAID 1.
Could you help me to unblock the situation? thank you in advance.

SolutionHi,
ACU doesn't work with that Intel controller.
Generally ACU only works with HP's smart array controllers.
Which is also probably the reason why smartstart doesn't work.
"HP Embedded G5 SATA RAID Controller Driver for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions "
did you try to use that driver too?
That driver is not available on the 2008 R2 Foundation page, (it's on the normal 2008 R2).
It says on http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/windows/index.html that 2008 R2 Foundation is HP Supported on the DL320 G5p, however it doesn't say if that requires the use of a smart array controller.

Re: ProLiant DL320 G5p (problem installing Windows 2008 R2 Foundation with SmartStart 8.70B)
Johan,
Thank you for your quick response to my problem.
The link to the driver allowed Windows 2008 R2 to detect the disk and install the system in a raid1.
I will install other drivers manually later.
That's perfect. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Michel
