Question on LDEV assignment on XP512

Question on LDEV assignment on XP512

Very quick question on the XP512...

Is it possible to assign LDEVs on the same array group to different CUs? Or must all LDEVs in an array group be in the same CU. I know most systems are configured to have CUs defined by physical location (top/bottom of DKU etc.), and this means normally all LDEVs in an array group are in the same CU, but does it have to be like this?

Thanks

Duncan

Re: Question on LDEV assignment on XP512

Hello Duncan

I have following to add:

LDEVs are logically grouped together into CU. A CU can contain up to 256 LDEVs.

The division of LDEV into separate CUs can be made based on several criteria.

CUs are often used to segregate different size LDEVs. Some CE place all the LDEVs from each B4 unit into separate CUs.

With above inputs it seems to be possible to assign LDEVs on the same array group to different CUs.

Sanjay,

Thanks, it seems likely that you can, but has anyone out there done it? Does it actually work?

Cheers

Re: Question on LDEV assignment on XP512

As you know all this falls in the domain of HP CE. I gave these inputs based on theoratical knowledge.

We have gone the B4 way.
