RAID Migration

I have a ML530 with smart array 431. I have 2 x 18,2 G disk with raid 1.
I need to insert a new 18.2 G disk and try to migrate the raid to raid 5.
What steps have i do?

Re: RAID Migration

I do not know if the ACU (array configuration utility) on this box supports online relayout from RAID 1 (mirror) to 5. Have you consulted the manual or CPQ documentation?
.
IMHO, best apporach is to back up everything on your RAID1, add in the 3rd disk and rebuild the array. Then restore back... 18GB to backup is not that large.. you can use a USB/FireWire external disk for this purpose.

Re: RAID Migration

Hi Nelson
In manual of SA431 says that this controller do on line migration of RAID level (RAID 1 to RAID5) whithout loose data.
I need known what step i have to do.
1- add HDs
2- boot server whith Smart Start
3- ...
Have i expand the array? I think not, cause its a RAID 1.
Have i expand logical drive before?
Or i just do the command to performe migration.
In manual don´t explain the step

Re: RAID Migration

If the manual says you can.. then go for it following the instaructions. BUT take a full backup first should something go wrong.
