RAID handling from AutoRaid after installing new Disk's

Hey,

We wan't to upgrade a AutoRaid Model 12H with some new Disk's.
At the Moment we have installed 8 times 9,1 GB Disk in our Array.
We wan't to add 4 times 18 GB to the Array.
The Backround to this Upgrade is, that the AutoRaid handles all Data, configured LUN'S (capacity smaler than 50% from the whole Disk Space) in Raid 0/1. Now we had create a new LUN in the Array, the Array did a balance and will now run in RAID 5. (Because we now have a used Disk capacity bigger than 50%).
The Question is now: Will the AutoRaid automaticly switch back to RAID 0/1 after including the new Disk's (We had set the Autoinclude Disk Option to true).

Thank's for your help

The answer is yes. I had the same configuration and After added new disks the extra space (unallocated disk space was used again as RAID 0/1. If you add disk with different capacity, you are going to loose the space equal with the largest disk for parity and Active Hot Spare.

Yes - the AutoRaid will automatically convert when a threshold is reached. By adding the additional disks and space, you noticed that the conversion took place the other way. The AutoRaid will do the conversion based upon disk space and what produces the best output between the RAID levels.

Re: RAID handling from AutoRaid after installing new Disk's

Tobias,
the Diskarray will bring back the data in Raid 1/0 but only the data which are rewrite or be new written on the disk. The total performance of the diskarray rise because of bigger 1/0 space. The read performance from RAID 5 and RAID 0/1 is the same.
The diskarray has table were the static of data use is stored and the diskarray switch the DATA back from RAID 5 to RAID 1/0 but this take time the diskarray make this process in the background.
