SCSI ID's, firmware, 2DH, and more

I have a long list of questions, sorry.

1. On the Smart-2/p, can you have 14 drives on one channel, have 14 on each channel for a total of 28 drives, or have a total of 14 by having 7 on each channel?
2. Can you use hard drives that do not have Compaq firmware on the Smart-2/p?
3. I saw on a website where they said they encounter a 20-30% flash failure rate when upgrading the firmware on the Smart-2 controllers. Is that true?
4. What are the differences between the Smart-2/p and the Smart-2DH?

Thanks

Re: SCSI ID's, firmware, 2DH, and more

John,

1. On the Smart 2P, you can only have 14 drives total. 7 on each channel.
2. Of course Compaq won't support non-Compaq drives on a Compaq controller. I haven't spoken with anyone who has tried non-Compaq drives on the 2P.
3. I haven't been keeping stats on flash failure rates on the Smart-2 controllers, but I think that a figure of 20-30% is quite high. Working with these controllers over the past year and a half, I've only seen 2 or 3 fail the flash.
4. The only difference between the 2P and the 2DH is that the 2P comes with 4MB of cache, the 2DH has 16MB.

Have a nice day,

Mike
