SPC-2 flag in a shared port environment using dmx

Dear All

I wish to set the SPC-2 flag in a shared port environment using an EMC DMX-3 disk array. I intend to use Solutions Enabler 6.4 and the following command to set the flag on an initiator.

symmask set hba_flags on SPC2_Protocol_Version –enable –wwn –dir –p

I’ve heard setting the SPC-2 flag can be disruptive and the host might need to be off line.

If I set this SPC-2 flag on an initiator (not on the entire FA port) - I want to know what the impact would be on the host concerned / other hosts on the shared port

E.g. What would the impact be on the hosts on the port – do we need to take all hosts the off line to avoid the applications being disrupted. The server that requires the flag setting is a HP blade running Red Hat

I’d also be interested in people’s experiences of transitioning to SPC-2, if you know of any good documentation, etc

Please comment

Nick
