SQL 2005 / EVA 8100 Snapshot/Snapclone Best Practices

What's the best way to quiesce SQL 2005 to ensure a healthy snapshot of the database when running a snapshot/snapclone against the LUN?

I'd like to keep the last 3 months of snaps on a separate LUN for compliance purposes. Any info you can send my way would be much appreciated.
