Smart array , SSD and all these things that needs to be done

Hi there,

I'm looking for informations about trim, alignement, raid configuration and best practices for all of that concerning HP SSD SAS and SATA hard drives (we are using mainstream devicesin HP DL360 PROLIANT SERVER G7,Gen8 with p420/410 SA cards).

do drives embed trim function? or do we need to activate it from the OS?

do smart array cards take care of kind of disks and can transmit trim instruction over RAID (10,5,0)?

is there any best practices for configuring RAID (stripe size, heads, sectors), partitionning and formating of disks?

I found some recommandations about configuring cache array accelerator but nothing else

thanks for any informations :)

cheers

Re: Smart array , SSD and all these things that needs to be done

hi johan,

thanks for your reply, but i already have these informations.

what i'm looking for are really low-level informations (as trim, stripe and block size configuration best practices), but i apply those info on my conf today ;)

for your  info, if you have a Centos 6.X OS ( or equivalent) and want to partition a SSD array, you must use "fdisk -c -u" (check man page) command in order to align the first partition on the 2048th sector and have a good alignement conf.
