SmartArray5i failed drive
I've got a DL380 G3 with a 2 x 36gig RAID1 set. One of the drives failed, so it was replaced. It didn't automatically rebuild, so I had a look in hpacucli. It won't let me add the new drive into array A, I assume because it thinks 0:0 is faulty.
Array: A
Interface Type: Parallel SCSI
Unused Space: 0 MB
Status: Failed
Logical Drive: 1
Size: 33.9 GB
Fault Tolerance: RAID 1+0
Heads: 255
Sectors Per Track: 32
Cylinders: 8716
Stripe Size: 128 KB
Status: Interim Recovery Mode
Array Accelerator: Enabled
Unique Identifier: 600508B1001841395651413242330002
Mount Points: None
physicaldrive 0:0
Port: ATTR_VALUE_PORT_UNKNOWN
Box: 0
Bay: 0
Status: Failed
Drive Type: Data Drive
Interface Type: Parallel SCSI
Transfer Mode: Async Narrow
Size: 0 MB
Transfer Speed: 5 MB/Sec
physicaldrive 0:6
Port: J1
Box: 0
Bay: 6
Status: Failed
Drive Type: Data Drive
Interface Type: Parallel SCSI
Transfer Mode: Async Narrow
Size: 0 MB
Transfer Speed: 5 MB/Sec
unassigned
physicaldrive 0:2
Port: J1
Box: 0
Bay: 2
Status: OK
Drive Type: Unassigned Drive
Interface Type: Parallel SCSI
Transfer Mode: Ultra 3 Wide
Size: 36.4 GB
Transfer Speed: 160 MB/Sec
Rotational Speed: 15000
Firmware Revision: HPB9
Serial Number: 3LQ4JAK800009002QW18
Model: COMPAQ BF0368B269
Drive 0:6 is the (working perfectly) AIT tape drive, but drive 0:0 is currently working. The faulty drive in 0:2 has been replaced with a new drive.
I'm not sure why 0:0 is saying failed, when it's currently the only working drive.
Any ideas?
Matt.

Re: SmartArray5i failed drive
This box hasn't been touched since it was installed (RHAS2.1). I only recently got the root password off the people who were meant to be supporting it.

Re: SmartArray5i failed drive
The latest version of hpacucli won't install due to dependencies.
Drive 1:6 would be in bay #6? The DL380G3 only goes to bay 5, which has the tape drive.
So it's showing a missing drive in a bay that doesn't exist?
How do I remove 1:6 from the array, so I can add in the new drive?

Re: SmartArray5i failed drive
0:0 is fine, the only problem now appears to be the phantom 1:6. I put the failed drive back in, and even it's saying it is fine (but I don't trust it).

I have an idea. I have an SCA to 68 pin adapter in my drawer, could I set that to id6 and plug it in to the raid port 1, bypassing the hotswap bays? Then repair the array and move the drive back into the hotswap.

Re: SmartArray5i failed drive
My next move was to buy an MSA30 off ebay. Don't use an MSA30 to fix a missing drive on ID6, as the MSA30 does not use ID6! it keeps ID6 reserved (for multi-initiator?). Lucky I have other uses for the MSA30.
Finally I borrowed the 3ru SCSI tape shelf from another server, and plugged it in to the external raid scsi connector on the DL380G3 (which seems to be absent from my DL385 G1), and it worked :)

Re: SmartArray5i failed drive
Correct, but it has little to do with today's MSA30MI. It goes back to the old DEC Storageworks dual-controller HSG/HSZ-based arrays.
