Storageworks disk enclosures - compatibility, specs

Where can I find clear concise spec sheets and configuration rules for various Storageworks disk enclosures?

I need information that explains the differences between:
VA7400 & VA7110
DS2400 & DS2405

Basically we have a VA7110 and 2 DS2405's, and are looking to add another rack enclosure of 15 drives. Remarketers have the VA7400 for much less than a VA7110, and the DS2400 for much less than the DS2405. What is the performance tradeoff (if any) for the older equipment, and would there be any compatibility issues?

Thanks...

p.s. I've searched on the HP website for the summary information I need to answer the questions and not found it. I'm a bit of a newbie in this hardware arena.

Carl,

You can find docs seperately for each VA 7xxx family product, but I don't find any docs especially compares any of these products. You can find FAQ on these from the net

you can find some info from this "Upgrading a VA 7100/7400 to a VA 7410/7110"

Re: Storageworks disk enclosures - compatibility, specs

Hi Carl,

here you can find certain manuals:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Product.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=179166&prodTypeId=12169&prodCatId=304617

Your VA7110 supports only 2 disk enclosures, so it is fully loaded now. You cannot add another enclusure. The DS2400 is not supported with the VA7110 anyway.

The VA7400 will work with the DS2400.

Generally speaking, the VA7x10 gives more performance than the VA7x00, because of different CPUs and 2GBit internal speed compared to 1GBit internal speed.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Storageworks disk enclosures - compatibility, specs

Carl,

VA7100 : 1 shelf with 15 GB, 1 GB FC connection

VA7110 : Up to three shelfs 3 x 15 GB , 2 GB FC connection

DS2400 : Fiber enclosure a 1 GB FC speed

DS2405 : Fbier enclosure at 2 GB FC speed

Re: Storageworks disk enclosures - compatibility, specs

So, based on all this info and having RTFM's, I conclude that...

A VA7400 is equal or better than a VA7110 in all ways - right? I can't find any corroboration for the VA7400 being slower internally. Performance information in TFM (p. 17 of product overview) says it's faster.

And I need another VA7xxx to add another shelf. So the question of DS2405 vs. DS2400 is moot.

Thanks again.

Ah never mind. I just noticed in TFM where it says 1GB for VA7400.
