Swap smart array controllers

I have a Proliant 3000R PIII 600 ROM version 9/10/99 it has a SA-3200 controller with ROM version 4.16. I also have a ML530 PIII xeon ROM version 08/04/2001 it has a SA-532 controller with ROM version 1.16.

* The SA-532 requires the PCI 3.3v slot does the Proliant 3000R have such a slot??

* I would like to replace the SA-3200 with a SA-532 in the Proliant 3000R is this possible and if so what steps should I take??

* I would then take the SA-3200 controller and install it in the ML530 ( the ML530 currently has the SA-532). Can I just swap array controllers again in this scenario or are there other steps?? Is this considered a downgrade in array controllers??

The reason I would like to do this is I just purchased an additional drive cage for the ML530 and would like to use the two internal channels of the SA-3200. The SA-532 currently in the ML530 only has one internal channel.

Thanks for any advise.

Re: Swap smart array controllers

The 3000 does not have a 3.3 v slot, therefore the 532 controller is not supported by the 3000r. The replacement of the 532 by a 3200 would be considered a downgrade as the 3200 is 2 generations older. With all this information it is obvious that you cannot swap these controllers.
