The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?
Hi All,
I've just installed HP Storage D2600 Disk Enclosure that is filled with 12x 3 TB disks, to be used as backup server.
Mostly the file size will be very large greater than 1 GB up to 4-6 TB.
The File system will be NTFS, so I wonder here if anyone can assist me with the best practice for configuring the LUN for the RAID stripe size as per below:
Thanks in advance.

I know this post is old, just curious, what array controller did you use for the d2600?

Re: The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?
p411, but I have been unable to get it working with my d2700, I have been trying for almost 4 months.
Its pretty sad, I haven't been able to find any info on it. There is litterally no documentation, no forums, no nothing, on what's wrong. I'm sure its something simple.
This issue is litterallly affecting my self esteem..lol

Re: The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?
@cnorton39, Here's my setting:

LUN1: RAID 50 (NPG: 2)
24x 500 GB SAS 7200 rpm HDD
1x hot spare
Port 1E,2E Box 2 : HP D2700 StorageWorks Enclosure 2
LUN2: RAID 6 (ADG)
25x 500 GB SAS 7200 rpm HDD

It has reached its maximum limit of 4x enclosure in daisy chain with Smart Array P411.

Re: The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?
Thanks, I appreciate you giving me your config, I simply cant get my server to detect my enclosure.
I have a dl580 with a 830i along with p411 for the enclosure. ACU sees the p411 controller, but will not detect the drives. I can't update the firmware of the enclosure, or the I/O because I can't connect to it. I have changed the cables several times, as well.
Its almost hopeless. I have no HP support for the enclosure. I can't replace the card, because it is works.
I have tried everything. i'm just lost.

@cnorton39, how many enclosure in total managed or handled by the P411 card ? maximum 4 and there is also maximum drive limit as well.
I didn't know this limitation before but luckilly @'ve found it in the quick specs.

Re: The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?
I just read your previous thread on daisy chaining the enclosures. I'm only using one enclosure and one server.
Single domain configuration. HPSSA sees the internal controller, and the p411 controller, it simply doesn't see the enclosure. The ACU sees the p411 controller, but again, no enclosure. I get the error "no configurable drives...no physical drives.." error.
If you have any insight, please share...
