Upgrading Smart Array Controller
I am trying to upgrade my Smart Array 3200 controller to a 4200. I have a Raid 5 array configured. Is it just a straight swap or do I need to backup and start from fresh then restore the data?

Re: Upgrading Smart Array Controller
Hi, did you mean you are replacing 3200 with 4200. If yes, then yes, just replace. The new controller yould see the disks and configuration. Be shure to corect the boot oder on the server to reflect the change.

Re: Upgrading Smart Array Controller
Hi,
if you have Windows, you also need to install the driver for the 4200 before you swap the controllers. The 3200 and 4200 use different drivers (3200 uses CPQARRAY.SYS, 4200 uses CPQARRY2.SYS), and if you just swapped the controllers, the system might bluescreen when you boot.
Here's a link to the user guide for the 4200. Read Appendix F.
