VA 7410

I just inherited a VA7410. I need some help in that when creating a LUN and configuring space, it is telling me "Unable to Create LUN. Invalid capacity" I have all 15 72GB disks loaded and running. The system sees all disks. There are no current LUN's present. I have also done a subsystem format. I am trying to create a 500GB LUN but the largest I can create is something like 285 GB.

I am not using CommandView SDM as it is not working for me.

Thanks

Why not?

BTW, if I do a very inexact but quick calculation this could be correct:

15 * 72 GB ~ 1000GB
(consider there are 520k blocks - you'll loose some additional space)

1000GB / 2 ~ 500GB
(due to redundancy for RAID 1 + spare disk[s])

500 / 2 ~ 250 GB per redundancy group

So you can create 2 LUNs with ~250GB each.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: VA 7410

I have SDM installed. I have the controller connected from the host port to my FC card on the server SDM is installed on. When launching SDM, it shows status as ????. I can't ind any documentation on installing SDM. Is there something I am missing?

I forgot about the redudancy groups. I was able to create 2 LUNS of 250GB each

I just inherited this so I have no clue on HP's methodology or how SDM works.
