VA7100 diferent RAID modes and usable capacity

Hi,

I would need to know the possible Raid modes
(actually) and usable capacity for each mode
of a VA7100 with 4 disk of 36G.

Re: VA7100 diferent RAID modes and usable capacity

Since you have 4 disks only it does not matter if your array is in RAID 1+0 or AUTORAID mode. It will always keep data in RAID 1+0 because there is no capacity gain from converting to RAID5DP. Usable capacity depends of Active Hot Spare settings:
0 disk for AHS gives you 68GB usable capacity
1 disk for AHS gives you 48.6 usable capacity
2 disk for AHS gives you 32.2 usable capacity

Re: VA7100 diferent RAID modes and usable capacity

With more than 4 disks usable capacity depends of raid mode.
For 6x36 disks in RAID 1+0 you have:
0 AHS 103.8
1 AHS 85.9
2 AHS 68
For 8x36 disks in RAID 1+0 you have:
0 AHS 139.7
1 AHS 139.7
2 AHS 103.8
For 6x36 disks in AUTORAID you have:
0 AHS 132.2
1 AHS 101.2
2 AHS 68
For 8x36 disks in AUTORAID you have:
0 AHS 198.4
1 AHS 165.4
2 AHS 132.2
