Volume Expansion with EVA 5000 and Windows 2003 Cluster Services

Hi,

We have to integrate 2 EVA 5000 Units and the customer complains about the possibility of extension the Cluster Disks with Windows 2003 MSCS.

MSCS still uses Basic Disks. However Basic Disks could normally expanded using the DISKPART command.

Does anybody know, if this works with clustered disk resources....??

The answer is yes. And no if it makes any sense :)

Yes - you can use DISKPART to expand the capacity of the drive without deleting a partition:

No - the small print within this article says:
"Take the entire group that the physical disk resource is located in OFFLINE"

All that means that you need to stop your cluster while expanding the capacity. If end users could accept that kind of a downtime, then you are OK.

I can second what the previous post says.

I have successfully performed this many times (well the server people have) after I have expanded a LUN that is part of a Microsoft Clsuter. I have done this on all HP EVA range of storage as well as most HDS storage.
