What does it take to upgrade my EVA8000 to an EVA8100?

My understanding is an EVA8100 differs from the EVA8000 in that the throughput is 4GB instead of 2GB? What else does it change?

We have the need for more performance from our EVA8000 and I am wondering what parts are needed to improve throughput of an EVA8000.

Hi,
you can look in the q14/a14 in here:

the pain is one part of the reality

Ugh, so new controllers, loop switches, etc, etc....

For the cost its probably not worth it..

Any other suggestions or ideas? How do you know if you HAVE to upgrade your loop switches, I/O modules, etc?

Re: What does it take to upgrade my EVA8000 to an EVA8100?

I would not upgrade the EVA8000 to an EVA8100. The performance improvement compared to the cost does not pay out!

The pure controller performance increases are:
- random 210'000 IOPS to 225'000 IOPS
- sequential 1600 MB/s to 2450 MB/s

However, the real life performance depends on the backend and thus mainly on the number of installed disks!! And the backend performance does not differ much!

'bandwidth', not 'throughput'.

If it were '4GigaBit throughput' it would mean the 8100 is twice as powerfull. As Pete wrote, that's unfortunately not the case.
