XP12000 16-Port CHiP Boards - Why use only 8 Ports?

And what's the repercussions if I use all 16 Ports? I recall vaguely but I thought it was due to performance considerations...

Can anyone advice? We're seeing obersubscription on the ports and would like to see if switching to using all 16 ports is viable.

IIRC this is slightly different from model to another, but it always depends on system configuration and used chip boards.

Some of the boards have one processer per two ports. In this configuration, if one port is heavily loaded it could have an impact on the other port in the pair.

HP can help you determine which ports are paired together.

Hi

The 16 port CHIP is a set of 2 cards with 8 port and 4 microprocessors each. (see attachment)
Thus 2 ports share one microprocessor.
This is useful for connectivity but does not increase performance because the microprocessor is usually the critical component.

So if all of your microprocessors are used above 60% I would recommend adding anothet CHIP.
From the performance perspective the 8-port CHIP is the optimum.
