alternative way to expand array

I have to expand an array at a Smart221 Controller (which doesn't support online expansion).
Wouldn't it be possible to temporarly change the Controller to a modell that supports online expansion (2DH for example), then expand the array and afterwards change back to the original 221 controller.
I think, the main question is, if the 221 will be able to handle the expanded logical drive.

Greetings from Dortmund.

Re: alternative way to expand array

Yes but... very hazardous process. You have to be sure the firmware and drivers are fully compatible to both controllers before even trying this. And it's NOT supported by Compaq.

I used a 2sl with battery backup cache. Straight swap out. Expand the Array - refit the 221. NT4 didnt notice!
