can I run an MSA500 on an Proliant 1850R ??

A friend has an Proliant 1850R, which he thinks is like an early dL380, but is not 100% sure. He also has an MSA500 storage array, but knows little about this. Can it be used on his Compaq PC?

What exactly is this MSA500? Why does it need a driver? Can you access them in any way as standard disks, so having lots of disk on the one scsi bus?

We are a bit confused about hiw best (if at all) to use this array. He would prefgre to ru windze vesrion, but will consider Solaris or Linux. Even a non-PC (HP or similar UNIX box).
