cant add disk to VA7410

Greetings all. I have a va7410 attached to rp8400 running hpux 11.23. I have added a disk to the array, status shows "misplaced disk" on the device. I tried armcfg -D JA2/D13 -a . Got Error - cannot open target. Please retry after discovery process. I tried also armcfg -D JA2/D13 -a -d - syntax error. Anyone have a thought?

Re: cant add disk to VA7410

I have never seen a status "misplaced disk" before.

What else does "armdsp -a" show?

What disk model is it? Did you check if it is supported? Was it in use in another VA before?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: cant add disk to VA7410

It may have been in another array. I just want to format it to be in this array. I am attaching the armdsp output. Thanks

Re: cant add disk to VA7410

Disk at JA2/D13:
Status:_______________________________Good
Disk State:___________________________Previously used
Vendor ID:____________________________HP 36.4G
Product ID:___________________________ST336752FC
Product Revision:_____________________HP07
Data Capacity:________________________33.378 GB (70000000 blocks)
Block Length:_________________________520 bytes
Address:______________________________44
Node WWN:_____________________________20000004cfa004c2
Initialize State:_____________________Failing

Previously used means it was in another VA before. Normally you can include it manually.

But the status "failing" doesn't look good (should be "ready" too) - it is likely almost dead.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: cant add disk to VA7410

Issue seems to be with the disk as its showing "Failing". Good disks can be included when in "Previously used" state by using armcfg commands mentioned by you.

Re: cant add disk to VA7410

There were two problems. The status of FAILING would prevent it from being included. The armcfg syntax was not quite right - needed: armcfg -D JA2/D3 -a <array id> - the -d was not correct.
