compaq storage works

Hi hope I'm in the right area.

I have a compaq storage works with all 18.2 GB 10K UltraA3 scsci disks. I would like to replace one raid (3 disks) with 72.8 GB 10K Ultra A3 scsci disks. Is this possible? and can I swap out one and a time (hot swapable)?

thanks,

Re: compaq storage works

I think You'll have to re-create the raidset, at least the RA3000 I played with some years ago did not come with auto-extension features. Can You specify the exact model You are using?

(and yes, You're in the right area as far as I can tell ;)
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Thanks!

I will backup the raid and install the new 72GB drives. Than I will restore the data on the new raid.

Thanks!

Re: compaq storage works

Well, "compaq storage works" can mean any out of several storage controllers.

If this is a SmartArray controller, then you have a good chance that it works for you. Start with a good backup before you pull any disk. Realize that your disk array works in a reduced mode as long as it is rebuilding one disk after the other.
