disk serial numbers

I just got in two used FC10 arrays and need the serial numbers to put on my support contract. Anyone got a way to get them from the system or do I have to pull each disk and write down its number the old fashioned way.

will the FC10 register under the amdsp command? I use that for our FC60

amdsp -i will list the arrays
amdsp -a will list all of the components including serial numbers.

Since the FC10 works like JBOD(?), this may not fly.

you can also try mstm at the command ine... you should be able to run information on each disk found and it will return info that includes serial numbers

I don't bother listing individual disk serial numbers - my contract just shows "A5294AZ#210 10x18.2GB 10K RPM Ultra@ SCSI Drives". It's not necessary to list each one.

Unfortunately, neither command worked for me to retrieve serial numbers. I have been told by HP that I need to have the serial numbers on our support agreement--they are re-marketed. I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way :)

sorry... we have the Disk System 2405, which to my knowledge is the replacement for the FC10. I use it in JBOD configuration, and mstm did pull up the disk serial numbers

# mstm

hit "o" to acknowledge OK when you get the start info
scroll down and you should see an entry for each disk in the system. Spacebar will highlight what ever you want... just make sure you only highlight one at a time

hit tab to bounce up to the menu bar and under tools select information and then select run

that would return all details on the disk including serial number.

humble apologies if this fails, or you have already done the yank and check method :-)

Hi Richard,

You might try the sysinfo utility. It'll return disk S/Ns from other JBOD style enclosures.

Here's what it reurned from a K-class that had internal, Jamaica & XP connections.
I'll also attach it as a txt file in case the format gets whacked.

As you can see, it gives the S/Ns for the internal as well as Jamaica drives. But the S/N reported from the XP is rather cryptic.
But hey, it worth a try.

Hello,

You can get them from mstm. Type mstm on your command prompt; for each disk, Options - Information - Run and you should get their serial number this way.

most of the system info collectors for hpux will collect the stm info and provide the serial numbers this way (grep -i "serial" infofile).

you may want to have a look at

(the info collector that I'm using)

in case you're dealing with stm a lot you may want to give cstm a try:
cstm>help
is a good starter
(map, sel-select, info, il-information log
are the essential commands).
