hi;
We are building new systems. we have two disk groups in eva 8000 each have 64 disks. and we have two clustered nodes which use this groups. We have already created cluster packages. And oracle rac has already been set up. now it's requested from us, vdisks will be removed from these disk groups to another disk group. so we must ungroup 16 disk from a disk group and 16 disk from the other group. In this way, there is no need to reconfigure OS. And we have already selected which disks we will ungroup so that disk group's disks are distributed to enclosures correctly.
we have another way:
since there isn't much and important data on eva, we can reconfigure eva disk groups, OS volume groups, etc from the beginning.
now my question:
1. if we choose the way of disk ungroupping , can we ungroup disks at once? what is the procedure? should we ungroup disks in background and wait seeing leveling message ?
how long it takes( 100 gb data nearly) ?
2. if we recreate disk groups and vdisks, device files, lvm stucture will change in OS. so what things must be reconfigure? should we reconfigure cluster packages, oracle rac etc. ?
thanks.

Solution
Shalom,
Cluster packages commonly activate a volume group when they start.
If the volume group name remains the same, you should be able to down the cluster, umount the filesystems, do the eva work and then newfs the filesystems after activating the volume group.
You should vgexport prior to the work and vgimport after.
You may lose the data and have to build the volume group anew from scratch.
In the end, you should be able to get away without reconfiguring the cluster, assuming you keep the same volume group names.

Re: eva disk ungroup and cluster reconfiguration
Hello Kenan,
Regarding your queries
1. if we choose the way of disk ungroupping , can we ungroup disks at once? what is the procedure? should we ungroup disks in background and wait seeing leveling message ?
how long it takes( 100 gb data nearly) ?
Ans) The supported way is to ungroup one disk at a time and wait for the levelling to complete..before ungrouping another disk, time it actually depends on the disk occupancy level...
2. if we recreate disk groups and vdisks, device files, lvm stucture will change in OS. so what things must be reconfigure? should we reconfigure cluster packages, oracle rac etc. ?
Ans) Yes, you have to begin from scratch. All info is wiped out clean.
regards
Albert

Re: eva disk ungroup and cluster reconfiguration
Actually all info from the LVM point of view is wiped out..you need to take care of this only.
