eva5k_146Gb_issue
Two Es80 alphas under Tru64unix share the same
eva5k (2c6d)which contain 38 disks of 146Gb FC.
We are facing a very often disk failure at a
rate of 1 disk/ month.
Firmware update has been done as recommended by
HP with no results.
However ,It is running well with no errors.
Eva first install on 03 ,in prod 04.
Replaced 6 hdd among 38 up to now.
Did someone use eva5k with 146 Gb yet?comments
Is it known issue with known fixes ?
Thanks a lot for your help

Re: eva5k_146Gb_issue
unfortunaly i can confirm this rate, almost a disk every two month rate ;(
But I have 84 disks.
Techs says that failures are frequent in the first two/three months, let's call it assessment...
HTH,
Massimo

Re: eva5k_146Gb_issue
In our failures though, the EVA is completely frozen -- that HP ends up rebooting each of the controllers.
The good thing is we have not had a data loss yet -- as HP-UX / VxFS does its thing very well indeed.

Re: eva5k_146Gb_issue
The same thing happened at our site as well. We looked at the prospect of the "bad batch" of disks as well.
However, after many failures in the first 6 months of implementation, the failures stopped. So we did not pursue further.
One moral of the story: Even if there are multiple failures, wait for the levelling to complete. Sometimes, we had disks failing during the levelling and the levelling happened 2 or 3 times. Only after all the levelling activities stopped, disks to be changed / replaced.
Cheers
