hardware installation
We have a Proliant 1600R 6/400 and would like to install a 221 controller. We have one (1) 9.1GB drive in the server. We want to bring it to RAID 5. We also have the additional two (2) 9.1 drives needed.
Is there a way to install the controller without losing the data on our exisiting drive? Detailed steps would be helpful...
THANKS!

Re: hardware installation
The best and most reliable thing to do is this: Printout all OS and Application settings, copy all special config files to another computer or disk, do a full backup, install the 221, initialize the array using smartstart (this will destroy all data on the drives!). Install NT, run the SSD and update system drivers, configure the system to the original specs. Install applications. I have tried Veritas and Arcserve solutions, but they just weren't worth the money or trouble. A clean install is best.
