msa1500 Disk Array

msa1500 Disk Array

I have two msa1500 disk arrays each with 14 disks of 73GB each. These two disk arrays were connected to a MSA1000 controller. This controller is attached via fiber to a HP-UX server. I have tried to use the ACU CLI in command mode from the server but I am nto figuring it out, so I hooked these two disk arrays to two HP-UX servers and now all 28 disk lights are on. My question is how do I turn the disk lights off? and is there any documentation about the disk lights anywhere. And has anyone successfully used the CLI on an hp-ux server to go through the controller to configure disk arrays. All I can see is the controller, I can't figure this out.

Re: msa1500 Disk Array

Hi Greg,

I'm not sure I fully understand how things are connected, and what arrays you've got.

An MSA1000 has one or two controllers and 14 disk bays in one chassis.

The MSA1500 is just a controller shelf with one or two controllers - usually linked to an MSA30 or MSA20 disk shelf.

Can you confirm ?

Cheers,

Rob

Re: msa1500 Disk Array

And to add:
an MSA1000 can be expanded with one or two MSA30

Both, the MSA1000 and the MSA1500cs use the MSA1000 controller module.

Depending on when you bought things it is called the "Modular SAN Array" or the "Modular Smart Array". (I've seen an MSA1000 when both controller modules had different labels ;-)

Re: msa1500 Disk Array

The unit I am talking about is a "Modular Smart array 1000." This is a dual controller and I can connect via serial cable to both of them and configure the disks. Connected to the back of this controller via two scsi cables each are the two disk arrays each with 14 disks. However I do not want to connect to this controller via serial, I want to use the hpacucli utility on my HP-UX server that is connected via fiber to the "Modular Smart Array 1000." But I can not figure this out.

Re: msa1500 Disk Array

AFAIR there is a documentation included in the software package, did you found and read it?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: msa1500 Disk Array

I have documentation I downloaded which is:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/9320/acu.pdf however this does not show me how to see if anything is connected to the smart array, or if it does I am not finding it. Please let me know the documention you have and can I download it.

the document looks similar to the one I already have. Let me ask this then from this output, how would I find the two 14 disk arrays that are connected to this smart array:
