msa1500 new LD paused, now what?

msa1500 new LD paused, now what?

We added 3 300gig drives to an existing RAID6 array using the ACU, it went through the expanding of the the original 3 LD's, took about 3 days. That completed fine, but the new LD has a blue pause mark on it, and says "logical drive not available" under the more information tab. The MSA1500 is controlled by a DL385 g1. We use Server 2003 Standard 32 bit OS. HP had us update all the firmware, no change. Rebooted the servers, no change. Servers do not see the new LD space.

Re: msa1500 new LD paused, now what?

Hello Ed,

Can you attach a cli cable to the MSA controller, setup hyperterm for capture and issue the following command.

Show tech_report

And attach it to the foroum.

Re: msa1500 new LD paused, now what?

Ed,

Here is your problem.

You are only using one HBA port from this server,
VEC-IMAGE01 100000E0-02234E28 5

This port is attached to MSA Controller 1. All your LUNs are on MSA Controller 2, which is your active controller.

So, you have a few choices.
1). Failover all LUNs back to MSA C1
Attach cli cable to MSAC2,
set preferred_path other_controller unit_list=all

2). If you use a single HBA connection, attach it to the active controller. In this case MSA C2. Realize if you have a path failover, that single HBA connection will lose access to the MSA.

3). Or attach the HBA's second port to switch2 and assign LUN 5 to it. You may have to reboot server.

Please make sure your cabling is correct, because you are already running on the redundant side. It should be a safety net.
Make sure you have HBAp0 to switch1 to MSA C1(front,right). If using single ported HBAs, you will need to determine which HBA is discovered first. You can run HBAnywhere and check the WWPN for the first HBA and then properly label the names in SSP.
